The quizzes have several aims. Essentially they illustrate some of the Nature of Science aspects of the course. They may also be helpful for your study of Theory of Knowledge as culture is one of the twelve TOK concepts. The questions are unlikely to contain content that will be examined as such in the May/November examination sessions but they aim to widen your general knowledge about our subject and give you some genuine examples of how chemistry works practically both now and in the past in everyday life as well as theoretically. They are meant to be fun and perhaps in these current Covid times also provide a little bit of light relief. I would not expect you to know many of the answers so the score you get is irrelevant but I have provided fulsome answers and explanations to hopefully increase your enjoyment and love of chemistry as well as stimulate your interest to perhaps do some further research. Some of the questions may provide you with the spark of an idea that you could develop for your individual scientific investigation (IA) or extended essay. </p></div><hr class="hidden"><div class="greenBg"><h1>Culture of Chemistry (4) Quiz</h1><div class="tib-quiz" data-quiz-id="1555" data-structure="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" data-score-answers="6d4a526a457a48584f763758344a7649472f76324c53614b78524c393439595570496d5a5971374b38686f3d"><div class="exercise"><div class="q-question"><p>Who wrote the book "Silent Spring" which first alerted the world to the environmental damage being caused by the use of pesticides such as DDT?</p></div><div class="q-answer"><p><label class="radio" data-answer="19dd7e89807ad6f1c2692e2e9575e221"><input type="radio"><span> Aldous Huxley</span></label></p><p><label class="radio" data-answer="b01b285312eb0a0c67e508eeb08f8a88"><input type="radio"><span> David Attenborough</span></label></p><p><label class="radio" data-answer="8e6d6235e87369c7bfe1c7bc238fd7e7"><input type="radio"><span> George Orwell</span></label></p><p><label class="radio" data-answer="d0c2d4db0fc08626e58180d72ce7a15a"><input type="radio"><span> Rachel Carson</span></label></p></div><div class="q-explanation"><p>Silent Spring was written by Rachel Carson (1907 - 1964), an American marine biologist, and published in 1962.
